The City of Victoria in Mexico is one of the most dangerous cities in the world. To counteract violence, FC Correcaminos, a second division club, launched a project in July 2018 called Ambassadors for Peace. It was created to keep children and adults away from violence and its premise is one footballer more, one killer less. The project wants to give people in this deprived city an opportunity they do not have. The founders believe if people are occupied in an activity they enjoy, they will have less chance of getting involved in violence.
The programme is free and is open to young people and adults of all ages. Apart from the traditional academic subjects, it includes nutrition as everyone knows that a healthy life style results in healthy minds.
The programme’s first ambassador is Mexico’s once rebellious Jorge Campos who football reformed. The state and local governments, as well as universities and institutions support this valient and valuable initative.
Now we can say football is against violence and not for it!
